About the Event
As spinners we strive for the perfectly consistent yarn, even if that includes coils, twists or embellishments but that can really only be achieved with well prepared fibres. It really is true that preparation is the key to the best spinning.
Once you understand just how simple it really is you will be aware of the importance of good preparation and see it as part of the overall process of hand spinning. I promise you will love it as much as I do!
You will use hand carders to transform wool locks into beautifully rounded, airy rolags in preparation for English Long Draw and we shall demystify using the drum carder and you will create big, beautiful, lofty batts as well as making a long sliver of fibre directly from the carder using a diz. No more nepps and noils in your carded fibres!
You will spend time spinning with your prepared fibre to experience the differences in the techniques and understand how they affect and influence your hand spinning.
So if you have previously found these methods of preparation to be a bit of a mystery then this workshop is for you.
NOTE: All refreshments are provided including home-made cakes, biscuits, fresh fruit and beverages but please bring your own packed lunch.
Equipment is available for you to use or you may bring your own.
I look forward to welcoming you soon.
